Note: In 1832 he accompanied Bonneville on a fur trading expedition, spending three years in the wilderness. He made his home among the Crow Indians, taking an Indian wife. In 1846 he was employed by the American Fur Company. He helped to establish Fort Sarpy and was in charge of it 1853-6. He then commanded Fort Alexander.
