We are obliged to Joab Powell, a son of the deceased, and who lives in Illinois, for a more definite statement concerning this old and esteemed couple. He writes from Belle City, Illinois, under the date of July 23d, as follows: My father, Jacob Powell, was born in Guilford county, North Carolina, Nov. 16th, A. D. 1787, and was married to Polly Vermillion, Jan. 26th, A. D. 1809, in (then Floyd now) Pike county, Ky., and they lived together 66 years, 4 months and 22 days. My father died in Mason township, Lawrence county, Ohio, June 17, 1875, aged 87 years, 7 months and 1 day, where he resided 59 years, 2 months and 7 days. My mother was born in the State of Maryland, Sept. 17, 1791, and died in Mason township, Lawrence county, Ohio, June 25, 1875, aged 83 years, 9 months and 6 days; was a widow 8 days! She was the mother of 14 children; 12 lived to maturity, 11 raised families, 9 are now living, and the best of all they both died as they lived, in the triumph of living faith.
