  Graduated from McGill University 1888, Yale Divinity School 1890. Sailed from Boston 16 Aug 1890, arrived 10 Oct 1890 Erzroum. To Marash 1894, to Istanbul 1912. Relief work Tiflis, Van and USA 1915-1919. To Istanbul 22 Dec 1919. In USA 11 May 1937. Istanbul 1938-1939; Greece 1939-1941. Evacuated to India 1941-1945. Returned to Istanbul 21 Oct 1945, died one month later.
  "�.grandfather Daniel MacCallum came from Scotland to Glengarry County, Canada in the 1830's. He married a Canadian named Janet McEwen who had been educated in Montreal in a female Seminary conducted by a Miss Hannah Lyman�" Daniel named daughter after this lady, which is where name "Lyman" came from.
  Memorial book states, "Son of the manse, grandson of the Highlands, from which his father came to Canada as a small boy, knowing only native Gaelic". Frederick started college at Oberlin, Ohio, but had eye problems. Later entered McGill University, graduating 1888. After Yale Divinity School, married and sailed to Turkey, settling in Erzroum. Learned Armenian and taught in Theological Seminary at Marash for 17 years. Took charge of publication department at Constantinople in 1912. During WWI he was drawn into relief work in various locations. Returned to Constantinople and resumed both publication and relief work. In 1929 supervised translation of Bible from old Turkish alphabet into new one until 1937 when he retired from missionary work. He settled in Greece but WWII's eruption saw him evacuated. His health deteriorated in India and in 1945 he and wife were brought back to Istanbul by their son. Frederick died one month later
