a. Note:   N11 Grew up in NJ, then moved to TN where he married Elizabeth Cotton. They moved to Osage County, Missouri & produced 12 children.
 He went to California in 1849 along with brother, Thomas, & came back wealthy. Thomas stayed in CA.
 The Scotts & their children, along with neighbors MacFarland, Ingle, Holland, Gage, Eldridge, etc. moved to the portion of Texas just taken from Mexico in war (between the Brazos & Colorado rivers) and known as Oatmeal Community. J.R.Scott became first judge of newly-formed Burnett County. He was killed by "Bushwackers" because of his "Northern union sentiments" as Cival War neared - although he had four sons in the Confederate Army.
