a. Note:   N29 His parents, Lewis A. Macomber and Frances Smith Macomber, were from Perry, NY. Before entering college, he set up the first telephone system in Perry. Graduated in class of 1900 from Cornell University and became Ass't Prof. of Electrical Engineering at Sibley College, Cornell Univ. He received full professorship before leaving Cornell.
 During the summer of 1915, he moved with the family to Washington, DC to work with the Bureau of Standards. From 1920 to 1926, he was Director of Public Utilities for city of Buffalo, NY. Later he was employed by the Federal Communications Commission in Washington. He was a member of the American Institute of Electrical Science and of the American Society for the Advancement of English Education.
