Note: Joseph L. Maner enlisted in the Confederate Army as a private Feb. 16, 1863. He was in Company A , 64th regiment , Ga. Vol. Inf., Army of Northern Virginia from Fulton County, Ga. He was captured at Deep Bottom, Va. August 1, 1864; Paroled at Point Lookout, Md. , and exchanged at Boulware and Cox Warves, James River. Va. March 16. 1865.
Joseph died in Carroll County , Ga in 1875 at the age of 48. His widow Rachel, filed for a years support for herself and the children. His estate was valued at $2,000.00, included in that was his land valued at 1,200.00. He owned 250 acres.
Some of the information on Joseph came form Harold Smith Great-Great Grandson of Joseph and his first wife Emily Akridge. Harold is the founder of the Smyrna Historical and Genealogical Society. Harold was also Mayor of Smyrna, Ga. Additional information came from Phyllis Buchman of Decatur Al. She is s descendant of William D. Maner, son of Joseph and his second wife, Rachel Elizabeth.
