Note: Dr. John Harris was among the early settlers of Truro, although he did not come until a few years after the Township was granted. He and his family were one of the six families that sailed from Philadelphia in the month of May, 1767, sent by a company to settle in Pictou. Dr. John Harris moved to Truro about the year 1776, and settled on the interval of Salmon River. He was a Justice of the Peace, and was in the habit of celebrating the marriage contract. He was also Town Clerk. He died instantly falling off a horse. He represented Truro in Parliament from the year 1781 until the year 1784. From the Nova Scotia Immigrants to 1867" by Leonard H.
