Note: Notes on ANDREW J. FORD JR. CENSUS OF 1910: In this census Andrew or Andy as he is listed, is in the home of his parents. This is the only census he will show up on with his parents as they died a few days apart in 1911. He is taken away from all his siblings & raised apart from them. He is raised by CHARLIE FORD, a the youngest son of JAMES and CATHERINE FORD, who lived in Elm Springs AR. in 1860. This Charlie Cook Ford, married to Maude Chaplin Ford, is not to be confused with Andy's older brother CHARLIE who married Beulah Chaplin. PERSONAL NOTES: ANDY or Daddy as a youth once went to California on an Indian motorcycle and took his friend with him. He and Mom are married 7 years before having me, an only child, in Sept. 1939. I met Charlie Ford's wife Maude Chaplin Ford quite often since she and dad lived together until my parents marriage. As a young married couple they lived in her home about 6 months. Once Charlie is thrown from a horse and dies with a broken back, Dad helped "Mama" Maude Ford out by keeping a little garden, raising a few hogs, and chickens, for her, and keeping up a small orchard for their fruits for the table. Dad lived at Queen Wilehimina Inn as a youth and went to school at the bottom of Rich Mountain near present day Mena, AR. The Inn has been restored again and is now operating at the top of Rich Mountain as a hotel-inn w/restaurant. PERSONAL DATA ON DAD: Daddy was an automobile mechanic almost all of his life, beginning work for General Motors in late 1939 or early 1940. He worked at Cragon Motor Co. which later became McDonald-Smedley Chevrolet Oldsmobile and lastly, Bob Smedley Co., in Poteau, Ok. He retired in 1975 after developing cancer and sometime during cancer treatment after his surgery, he returned to work there. The honororary pallbearers for his funeral were his employer Bob Smedley, and all of the auto mechanics from the company. PERSONALITY: Everyone who knew Dad liked him and I never heard anyone say a bad thing about him nor him ever say anything malicious about others. He was a kind and caring man who was somewhat shy. Also they told me that if he'd had the opportunity to finish high school and go on through college, he would have made a very good mechanical engineer because he could repair almost anything mechanical. PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: He was a tall slim man with long legs and had the nicest strong hands. His hair was very thick and dark brown and he had soft brown eyes and a high forehead. He remained slim until he developed cancer in his later life. By the time he asked to be treated, it was too involved for chemotherapy to be very effective although he did live longer than the surgeon predicted. ABOUT DAD: He loved all of his grandkids very much and family in general, and most vacations for him involved the children and going on a picnic to his favorite location, the Queen Wilhellmena Inn where he had lived as a child with his Uncle Charlie and Aunt Maude who raised him from toddler stage. Other places were Black Fork Creek, Goats Bluff to fish and camp out; and just driving in the countryside and stopping and having a picnic. He enjoyed every kind of Western-type movie watching them over and over on TV, and one of his favorite songs was the Wabash Cannon Ball by Roy Acuff.
