Notes
a. Note:   1. Personal knowledge 2. Paul served in the U.S. Army during WWII; after returning from service, he worked in woods operations, sometimes with Dowlin Lumber Company in Milo and sometimes for himself. In the 1950's, taking his family, he worked on construction crews, living in most of the western and southwestern states. After several years, the family returned to Milo and Paul became a surveyor, working mostly for himself, though he taught some surveying classes at UMO. When he tired of traveling to Orono, he gained employment on the CPRR, still doing some surveying.
 3. In the 1950's, he bought land on Billington Road in Milo, near that of his parents and built a log home. This lot was the same that was owned nearly one hundred years earlier by his great-great grandfather, John Hodgkins. He later purchased a home on Swett Hill in Milo, property that had been owned by an ancestor in his West family and where he had lived as a child.
 4. Obituary, Bangor Daily News 3-21-2000: Paul A. West, 74, husband of Thelma A. (Pratt) West, completed his sojourn on Earth, March 19, 2000, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 3, 1925 in Milo, the son of Clarence and Edith (Buzzell) West. Paul was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II in the European theater. In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by three sons, Brent and his wife, Geraldine West of Holden, George and his wife, Kathy West of Milo, and Gary and his wife, Teresa West of Milo; his mother Edith West and sister Phyllis Hamilton, both of Linden TX; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins, including a special cousin, Ernest Buzzell, who has been a lifelong friend. It was Paul's wish to have no services. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
 5. Thelma told other family members that Paul's wish was to be cremated and returned to his old farm home on Swett Hill in Milo; no funeral services, no committal services, no scattering services.
