Note: Publication: The Register Herald Published: Headline: Beatrice C. Smith Zenith - Beatrice C. Smith, 78, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, after a brave fight with cancer. Born April 27, 1925, at Lookout, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Nancy Nutter Coy. Mrs. Smith was a retired custodian of the Monroe County Courthouse, a special deputy with the Monroe County Sheriff's Department and an avid sportsman and hunter. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Smith; three brothers, Clarence, Joe and Jim Coy; and two sisters, Ruth Coffman and Mable Reynolds She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Warren J. Smith; 10 children, Thomas W. "Bill" Gee and wife, Janice, of Radford, Va., Charles D. Gee of Union, James R. Gee and wife, Darlene, of Liberty, N.C., Martha Miller and husband, George, of Louisville, Ky., Patty Wright and husband, Paul, of Union, Patrick H. Smith and wife, Martha, of Dublin, Va., Carl E. Smith and wife, Janet, of Slidell, La., George H. Smith and wife, Tanya, of Galax, Va., John W. Smith and wife, Tamarah, of Peterstown and Franklin M. Smith of Pulaski, Va.; a stepson, Roger W. Smith and wife, Judy, of Moncove Lake, Gap Mills; a stepdaughter, Doris Brown and husband, William, of Ronceverte; two brothers, Wallace Coy of Lansing and John E. Coy of Rising Sun, Md.; two sisters, Grace Tolley of Nettie and Martha Nolan of Coal City; 24 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a host of young folks who knew her as Grandma Bea or Granny Smith; her special friend, Barbara Weikle; and the employees of Monroe Pharmacy. Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Broyles-McGuire Funeral Home Chapel, Union, with the Revs. Paul Broyles and Bob Ratliff officiating. Burial will follow in Carmel Cemetery, Gap Mills. Private viewing for the family will be 5 to 6 p.m. today and the family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements by Broyles-McGuire Funeral Home, Union.
