She was born in Radford, Va., the daughter of Hobart L. and Stella Reynolds (Tootsie) Roop. She was predeceased by her parents and sister, Cherokee Cook, of Radford. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and David Stone, Peggy and Charles Fowler, and Susan and Bob Mitchell; and daughter, Connie McCardle. Joyce was known as "the Queen" to her seven grandchildren, Shannon Engle and husband Ben, Wesley Michael, Josh McCardle, Paige Fowler, Dalton Fowler, Samantha Stokes and husband, Brian, and John Michael McCoy and wife, Jodi; three great-grandchildren, Ella, Addison and Trace Engle. Joyce served as a Lieutenant Crew Chief in the Radford Army Ammunition Plant Fire and Rescue Department and was a long time devoted parishioner and treasurer of the Fairview United Methodist Church. She loved nature and the outdoors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the fire department of your choice or to Fairview United Methodist Church, 4338 Graysontown Road, Radford, VA 24141.
