Concerning his name: There was one Rothwell family in Fayette County, West Virginia, in 1900. Herbert Henry Rothwell was a superintendent of a coal mine. He was with his mother and sister. By 1910 he had married an English girl (he was also English and immigrated in 1886, his mother in 1896-7, and his sister in 1898, his wife in 1906) and had two daughters. His mother was living with them. By 1920 H. H. Rothwell had 4 daughters and a son. He died in 1922. No marriage record found for him; poss. that he went back to England to marry Edith Whipp and returned with her to WV as they married about the same time as she immigrated. His death certificate lists parents as Henry Rothwell and Mary Alice Hill. Now this is where it gets really interesting. I found a death record for Fred T. Rothwell who died in 1897 in Baltimore, MD. The informant was his brother Herbert and parents are listed as Henry and Mary. Cause of death was unknown. The death is recorded in Fayette County even though he died in MD. I found an article on Winona, West Virginia [http://www.wvexp.com/index.php/Winona,_West_Virginia] which shows that Fred Rothwell was among the early leaseholders of John Nuttall's coal lands along Keeney Creek. Good possibility that my great-grandfather William Henderson Dempsey, who was a coal miner, worked for the Rothwell Coal Co. All speculation based on the above facts, but it looks like my grandfather may have been named after Fred Rothwell.
