Burial followed at Westmond Cemetery in Westmond, Idaho. Mrs. Roop, who was born in Frankfurt, Germany, died Thursday after a battle against cancer. She lived in Germany and met James Custer while he was stationed there, and they married and moved to the United States. She married Dustan Roop in 1966. They moved to North Idaho in 1968 and later returned to Santa Cruz, Calif., in 1984. Mrs. Roop spent the next 13 years working as the manager in the paint department at San Lorenzo Lumber until retiring in 1977. The couple then moved back to North Idaho, and she was a member of the Mormon Church in Westmond. She enjoyed shopping and liked to dress with a unique style and bright colors. She also enjoyed knitting furniture covers of wild, clashing colors. Survivors include her husband, Dustan; seven children, Val Custer of Orem, Utah, Luana Damron of Magna, Utah, Yvonne Taylor of Santa Cruz, Calif., Donel Roop of Spokane, Cindy Hook of Sandpoint, Jason Roop of Coeur d'Alene and Tamara Humble of Watsonville, Calif.; a brother and sister, Rinehold Schlimm and Maria Schmidt, both of Germany; 22 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
