  A great-grandson, Grady Eugene "Gene" Hapney, wrote (17 Apr 2013) about Chapman Marine Johnson: "I recall my dad and mom talking about some of the Johnson clan but the only one I can recall right now is one called, "Chap Johnson"? The only reason I recall that name is because of my dad's description of him. Long black hair looking more like an Indian than white. And this, my dad said everyone around believed "Chap" was some sort of a medicine man/witch doctor. My mom said he used a lot of herbs to heal the sick and actually did heal some ills!!"
