Born ca. 1728 in Europe, died 1807, married (1) Margaret Unknown before 1756 (died between 1783-1807) and (2) Elizabeth Unknown before his death in 1807. NOTE: In American he was known as John Michael Claunch. He was listed on the 1752 tithe list of Lunenburg Co., VA, as John Claunch. Between 1752 and 1756 he moved to Rowan Co., NC (later Mecklenburg Co., NC) where his sons Jeremiah Clontz (1756) and George Clontz (1760) were born. John Michael Claunch was awarded 200 acres in Mecklenburg Co., NC, on Rockey River on a branch of Dutch Buffaloe Creek in 1768. In 1778 his sons Jeremiah (22) and George (18) joined the army in NC.
