Dempsey Wood left her husband James H. Wood and her daughter Mary Jane about 1903. Mary Jane said that, one day when she was five or six, her mother, Louise, said she was going to the store and for Mary Jane to go to her grandmother's house and stay until Louise came for her. Mary went, but Louise never came back. The family does not know where she went or what happened to her. Anna, a granddaughter, doesn't believe Mary Jane ever saw her again.
