Settle Carlos Eugene Settle, 59, of Crab Orchard, was dead on arrival at a local hospital at 11:45 Saturday following a long illness. Born March 5, 1913 at Minden, he was the son of the late George W. and Mary Jane Settle. He was a retired coal miner and member of the United Mine Workers, Stanaford. He attended the Church of Jesus Christ. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Jane Settle; two sons, Norman, Richmond, Va., and Carlos, Crab Orchard; two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Sonia) Barr, Westfield, N. Y., and Mrs. William (Judy) Sarver, Charleston; six sisters, Mrs. Violet Boyd, Lakeland, Fla., Mrs. Lucille Bleece and Mrs. Ocie Marshall, both of Satellite Beach, Fla., Mrs. Hallie Wise, Washington, D. C, Mrs. Lannie Shumate, Pax, and Mrs. Iza Webb, Portsmouth, Va.; and seven grandchildren. The body is at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home pending completion of arrangements.
