  Publication: The Charleston Gazette Published: Sunday, May 25, 2008 headline: Bertha Burgess Ellis Bertha Burgess Ellis, 83, of Nitro, passed away May 23, 2008, in CAMC Memorial Hospital. Bertha was a long-standing member of Elizabeth Baptist Church, and most recently attended Spirit Life Church in Dunbar. She was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest "Ernie" Ellis Sr.; son, Donsal Ellis; and infant daughter, Wilda Ellis. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest "Ernie" Ellis Jr. of St. Albans, Lonzel Albert and Mollie Ellis of Cross Lanes, and Paul and Jan Ellis of Union; daughters, Kathryn Horton of Dayton, Ohio, and Wanda Goodwin of Cross Lanes; 18 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, at Elizabeth Baptist Church, Wolf Pen Drive, with the Rev. Walter Means and Pastor Craig Cook officiating. Burial will be in Burgess Cemetery, Grapevine Rd., Sissonville. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
