Notes
a. Note:   and Amy Nelson although he fits in the 1810 census listing for his widowed mother.
In William Sydney Laidley's 1911 "History of Charleston and Kanawha County, West Virginia and Representative Citizens" Nelson is named as one of the four sons of William Johnson. (MRIN01823 Julian M. Johnson.jpg in file)
Terry W. Johnson wrote in an e-mail dated May 26, 2001: "In Neil Darlington's book on Fayette county, he (Nelson Johnson) is described as the son of Benjamin Johnson, another Johnson family in that area. Other sources say he is a son of WEJ Sr. I'm still trying to prove one way or the other."
In "The History of Fayette County West Virginia 1993" sponsored and published by the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, page 32, there is an article on "Benjamin Johnson" which was submitted by Christine Beckelheimer. Here, Benjamin Johnson (1758-1834) and his first wife Sarah Catherine Thomas of Nicholas County had four children: three boys, one girl. Only two of the boys were identified: Thomas and Nelson. Benjamin's sons by his first marriage went to Indiana prior to 1832. The 1850 Census, Laugherty Twp., Ripley Co., lists Nelson Johnson age 61, b. VA; wife Nancy A. b. VA. The 1850 Census, Adams Twp., Ripley Co., list Thomas Johnson age 44, b. Maryland; wife Dorcas, b. VA.
