  Publication: The Charleston Gazette Published: Friday, June 01, 2001 Headline: Carl F. Johnson Manchester, Ga. - Carl F. Johnson, 88, formerly of Nithapel. Cemeterro, died Monday, May 28, in Manchester, Ga., after a short illness. Mr. Johnson was born in Ravenswood, Jackson County, W.Va., on February 20, 1913, a son of Otis and Georgia Baker Johnson. He served in the Pacific in WW II as a medical corpsman with The Americal Division. In 1978, he retired from the American Viscose Corporation (Avtex) after 38 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Nitro. Mr. Johnson was married to the late Marie Johnson and is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Terry Sue and James E. Shank of Manchester, Ga., a son Stephen of McDonough, Ga.; two grandsons, Jason Alan Shank of Atlanta, Ga., and James Andrew Shank of Macon, Ga.; two sisters Gladys Caplinger of Parkersburg and Virginia Lytton of Nitro. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2001, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Nitro, with Dr. Okey Harless officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
