Family tradition is that James and his family moved to Texas leaving only son James Wesley Sims in (West) Virginia. His widow Elizabeth died in May 1860 per the 1860 census (mortality schedule) in Colorado County, Texas. His children Nancy Jane, Susan, John Everett, and Charles and were in Colorado County in 1860 and daughter Rachel was in Houston County, Texas. Seneth, William H. and Daniel S. were not locate in 1860.
