F. Roop [son Walter Farmer Roop] (in file) "Gordon and Susan* had five children and moved to Kanawha Co, WV. It is said, Susan and an infant daughter died in a house fire in 1891. The four remaining sons were placed in the home of Henry Snuffer, the Sheriff of Kanawha Co., WV and his brother, Lee Snuffer, until Gordon was able to care for them. Gordon married second to Nancy E. Johnson. When Gordon returned for his children, Walter, Charles and George went with him but James wanted to stay with the only family he knew, the Snuffers, so Gordon let him stay rather than insist he go with him. Henry and Martha E. Snuffer were a loving married couple who could not have children of their own. They took in and raised with loving care many children who had lost their parents. Gordon's occupations are listed as being a photographer, coal miner and farmer in the records. In the 1920 Census he is living in Hughes Creek, Cabin Creek Dist. Kanawha Co, WV 12-Jan-1920. Tradition says Gordon was living with his daughter, Amanda Withrow in Donnally Hollow in Kanawha City, WV before he died, this was so that he could get to the doctors more easily. He is supposed to have died in 1930. Walter's grandson, Floyd Hapney said Gordon is buried at Jodie, Nicholas (sic, this should be Fayette) Co, WV. Gordon and Nancy had five children." [Source: Linda Pearl Dickey Roop, w/o Troy James Roop. Linda was working on a book of the Roop family. She was diagnosed with cancer and died a month later.] *Susan was her middle name. I have only found records listing her as Milla S., Millie S., M. S., or Milla Susan. Note: Gordon Washington Roop had 50 known grandchildren, 10 still living in 2014.
