James Manchin in the House of Delegates chambers. The Order of the 35th Star, created by Manchin 10 years ago, recognizes West Virginians who are at least 80 and have worked to build the state. Each recipient will receive a medallion. The ceremony is sponsored by the Mama Kay and Papa Joe Manchin 35th Star Foundation, a non-profit charity. About 95 percent of the funding for the foundation comes from the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and its auxiliary, and Moose lodges. Duffy Hurricane - Lura Ethel Duffy, 102, of Hurricane died Feb. 21, 1993, at the home of her son Frank Duffy of Memphis, Tenn., after a short illness. She was a former store operator in Swiss. Also surviving: son, John of Hurricane; daughter, Jean Wallace of Akron, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Charlie Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
