Notes
a. Note:   her death notice, to Henry and Catherine Rupe. Although she had eight children with Roop/Rupe name, and her name always appeared as Roop/Rupe, no record has been found to indicate that she ever married. Her oldest son reported her death as Nov. 17, 1868 from a heart attack in Montgomery Co., VA." [Source: Everette L. McGrew, My Mother Was A Rupe (revised August 2000)]
I wonder if her place of birth is correct considering the geographical location of Lunenburg County compared to Rockbridge and Montgomery counties where the family was said to be before and after her birth. It would mean that Henry and his family left Rockbridge travelling through Montgomery County where their son Samuel B. is said to be born, on to Lunenburg where Polly is said to be born, and then back to Montgomery where they finally settled down.   Concerning the father of her children: Per Barbary's marriage record her father was reputedly I. Dobbins. Per Elizabeth's death record her father was Isom Dobbins. Possible other children born to Mary were also fathered by Isom Dobbins. According to Montgomery Co. Va. marriage bond dated 7 June 1826 he married Katurah Winiteer. It is unlikely that children born to Mary after 1826 were fathered by Isom. He died 31 Aug 1877 in Raleigh County, West Virginia.
