a. Note:   BARONY OF GREY OF CODNOR
  V.5. SIR JOHN (GREY), LORD GREY (of Codnor), son and heir, was born in or before 1396. He appears to have served in France in 1417/8 with his father. He was summoned to Parliament from 26 February 1420/1 to 3 August 1429, by writs directed Johanni Grey de Codenore. On 15 March 1426/7 he was appointed Lieutenant of Ireland for 3 years from the date of his landing, and was on his way there with 600 persons and their horses 23 June 1427. His 1st wife's name is said to have been Joan. He married, 2ndly, Elizabeth daughter of Gerald [FitzGerald], 5th Earl of Kildare. He died s.p., 14 September 1430. His widow married in 1432, James Butler, 4th Earl of Ormond. [CP 6:129, 14:352]
