b. Note:   Joseph Smith and Mary Cornel Joseph Smith was born in 1683, in Greenwich, Connecticut. His father was Daniel Smith (b. 1648) and his mother was Hannah Knapp (b. 26 March, 1660.)   Joseph's grandfather, Dr. Henry Smith, immigrated to Boston aboard the Princess on July 27, 1635. NOTE: Joseph's g-g-g-grandmother was Anne Brereton,a direct descendant of royalty, including the Scot king Malcom III, the English king Henry I, and Henry's father William the Conqueror.   Joseph Smith's Knapp family lineage (through his mother, Hannah Knapp) begins with his great-grandfather, Nicholas Knapp, who immigrated  to Salem, Massachussetts aboard the Arbellain 1630, as a member of the Winthrop/Saltonstall expedition. He is descended from Sir David de Huntingdon and his wife, Lady Maud de Meshines (through both his Smith and Knapp forebears)  -- and through them to early kings and queens from Scotland, England, France, Sweden, and the Holy Roman Empire.   Joseph married Mary Cornel on 7 December, 1708, in Danbury, Connecticut.   Mary Cornell was born about 1687. Her parents were John Cornell (b: about 1661) and Hannah Smith (b: about 1665.) She married Joseph Smith (b: 1683 in Greenwich, CT) on 7 DEC 1708 in Danbury, CT. A note taken from the will of Joseph Smith (dated Mar. 5, 1755, probated Apr.1, 1755) mentions his wife Mary, and children Daniel, Amos, Mary, wife of Ebenezer Scofield of North Castle; granddaughters Hannah and Rachel, children of Joseph, a deceased son. Executors were his sons Amos and Daniel. Witnesses Ebenezer Weed, Jr., John Finch, and Abraham Davenport, page 73. Inventory taken May 27, 1755, by Abraham Hait and Joshua Lounsbury, and filed Aug. 5, 1755. His estate was distributed to his widow, Mary Smith, and to his grandchildren Hannah Smith and Rachel Smith, to his sons Amos and Daniel Smith, and to his daughter Mary, wife of Ebenezer Scofield.   Mary died about 1757.
