Note: !Mary Elwell Jenks was the daughter of the Reverend Francis and Sarah (Phillips) Jenks. Her uncle was Wendell Phillips (Harvard College, 1831), the great orator and champion of the anti-slavery movement. She married, on the 1st of October, 1845, the Reverend Richard Salter Storrs (Amherst College, 1839, Andover Theological Seminary, 1845). Reverend Storrs was immediately, upon graduation, called to the Harvard Congregational Church, in Brookline, Massachusetts, where he was ordained on October 22, 1845. He had served hardly a year when his abilities as a preacher led to his being called to the Church of the Pilgrims, in Brooklyn, New York. He remained there until his death in 1900. Their children were four, three of whom survived him.
