Note: 1940 Obituary. Another Pioneer Crosses The Divide On Monday, January 23rd, Mary Anne McCullough, wife of the late OliverL. Emerson, passed away in Boissevain, at the age of 88 years and 3months. Up to a few years ago, Mrs. Emerson enjoyed very good health for alady of her age. Later she was afflicted with a stroke in October,1936, and prior to the time of her demise, had been confined to herbed for several weeks. Mrs. Emerson was born on November 23rd 1851, at Hemmingford, Quebec.At the age of 30 she married Oliver L. Emerson, the marriage tookplace at North Hatley. Two years later Mr. and Mrs. Emerson moved toManitoba and took up residence in the city of Winnipeg for threeyears. Then they moved to the Alcester district, where Mr. Emerson hadtaken ujp a homestead. They later farmed at Ninga and at Wakepa, whereMr. Emerson passed away. From the time of her husbands demise in 1916up to 1926 she resided with her son Fred and later with her daughter,Mrs. Shannon (Eva). In 1926 Mrs. Emerson moved to Boissevain with herdaughter Miss Elizabeth, and took up residence on Cook St. North, andresided in town up to the time of her demise. While Mrs. Emerson was a member of the Congretational church, she was,since moving west, an adherent of the Methodist church and later theUnited Church. She was a lady that was at all times honored and respected by herneighbors and friends, and in the early days on the farm, she gaveconsiderable of her time in making it a little more pleasant for herneighbors and those who were not in as affluent circumstances. Theearly settlers and those who came later will always remember her forkindness extended. Three children are bereaved; Mrs. Shannon (Eva). Fred. of Bakersfield,California, and Miss Elizabeth of Boissevain. Three brothers are alsobereaved; Robert of Worcester, Mass. U.S.A., and S. W. of Brandon, andW. I. of Brandon. The funeral took place on Wednesday, the service was held at St. PaulsUnited church, Rev. Dr. Wyman conducting the same.
