This land was in the Augusta District of Colonial Virginia and the land Fairfax segmente d for grants was surveyed by George Washington. The Welton homestead was known as Edgewood . In the early 1750's John and his neighbors, plagued by Indian raids, built Fort Welton o n Edgewood.
