Note: WILL OF WILLIAM JANNEY LOUDOUN COUNTY WILL BOOK D 1788-1793 The 12th day of the 6th Month 1787 I WILLIAM JANNEY of Louden County in the Colony of Virginia, Yeoman, being in health of body & of sound mind & memory but calling to mind the uncertainty of this life and that it is appointed to all men once to die, do make this my last Will and Testament in manner folowing that is to say, I commit my Soul into the hands of God who gave it & my body to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my body to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named; And in the first place I will and order that all my Just debts & funeral expences be paid and satisfied out of my personal Estate. Item 1 will and bequeath unto my beloved Wife, ELIZABETH JANNEY, the best bed & beding thereunto belonging, a milch Cow of her own choice & to be well kept both winter & summer with good hay & pasture; the full use, benefit and privilidge of my Dwelling House; and Spring for water, ground for a garden, the priviledge of the Oven, land of Apple out of the Orchard if anyand that she shall have one third part of my personal Estate and it is mind and will that my Son, JESSE, provide cut and haul to the Door suitable and sufficient fire wood for my said Wife during her natural life, and that he also pay her yearly & every year during her life the sum of Five pounds Virginia currency if by her demanded Item 1 give to my Son, STACEY, the sum of Five Shillings Sterling. Item 1 give to my Son, WILLIAM, the sum of Five Shillings Sterling Item 1 give & bequeath all the residue & remainder of my personal Estate whatseover Except my wearing apparel, unto my four Children namely, ISAAC JANNEY, ANNE WHITE, ELIZABETH HUGHES & LETITIA WILDMAN to be equally divided amongst them share & share alike Item it is my mind & will that my wearing apparel be equally divided between my Son, ISAAC, and my Son in Law, ABRAHAM WILDMAN, Item 1 give and devise all my land tenement and plant- ation that I now live on unto my Son, JESSE JANNEY; to be hold by him his heirs and assigns forever, he pay- ing and providing for my Wife as is above expressed and specified Lastly I do hereby nominate & appoint my Two Sons, STACEY JANNEY & JESSE JANNEY, Executors of this my last Will and Testament and I do here revoke & make void all other and former Wills or Testaments by me heretofore made willed or bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal Signed sealed pronounced and declared by the said WILLIAM JANNEY to be his Last Will & Testament in the presence of us the Subscribers BLACKSTONE JANNEY, WILLIAM JANNEY ELISAH JANNEY, MARY FINNIKIN At a Court held for Loudoun County September the 12th 1791 This Will was proved by the Oaths of BLACKSTON JANNEY and ELISHA JANNEY, two of the subscribing witnesses thereto & ordered to be recorded, And on the motion of JESSE JANNEY one of the Executors therein named who qualified according to Law, Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form giving security Whereupon he together with ISRAEL JANNEY & BENJAMIN MEAD his securities, entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of Five hundred pounds conditioned as the Law directs, and Liberty is reserved to the other Executor to join in the probate thereof when he shall think fit.
