Notes
a. Note:   1825 -
Zebedee was at one time a Justice of the Peace and a Baptist Minister. I have not determined exact dates for these as yet. He has also been known by Zebediah, however, according to Bible records, his name is actually Zebedee.
  Year 1850.
I have not learned the location of his property where his family lived at the time of the 1850 census.
1850 Ripley County, Missouri Census, dwelling # 222, family # 226, value of real estate is $75. Date of census 16 Sep 1850. Being 77th District
Stephens, Z.W. 24 m MO farming ***married within census year
Malissa M. 25 f TN ***married within census year
Wm J. 3 m MO Seleann 1 f MO James C. 2/12 m MO (July) I have not learned why this census shows that Zebedee and Malissa were married within the census year. If that be the case then William would not be the child of Zebediah & Mary and neither would Celia. According to my records, Celia was born 6 Sep 1848 which means she would have already had her 2nd birthday by the time of this census and James would have been 6 months. However the 1850 census shows that James was born in July instead of March. I have not found a marriage record yet for them. My conclusion at this time is this census record is incorrect.
This census record also shows that Malissa cannot read & write. I have viewed several Deeds which were signed by Zebedee and Malissa and they are all marked with an "X" for her signature.
  Year 1856.

All in Fract.Sect N and the 5th Principal Meridian (the only meridian for Ripley County.)
  Year 1859.
According to the Bureau of Land management Land Patent report, Zebedee W. Stephens acquirred an additional 80 acres on January 1, 1859. Land description as follows: N 1/2 of the NW quarter of section 28, township 23-N, range 3-E. (This totals to 240 adjoining acres of land.)

On February 1, 1875 Zebedee purchased Real Estate and received a Sheriff's Deed for all of Town Lot 6 in block 2. New addition to Doniphan in SE 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of Section 26 in Township 23 N Range 2 East in Ripley County, Missouri. Purchase price was $19.25.
Daughter Celia Ann gave birth to her 4th child, Naoma, on 2 Mar 1875. The infant died the same day and was apparently the first person to be buried in what is now called the "Stephens / Richmond Cemetery." The cemetery was apparently started by Zebedee who owned the land at that time. I have not found when he acquirred this land. The land description is Sec 16, Twp 24-N, R 3-E in the Beaverdam area of Ripley County, Missouri. Directions to this cemetery: Highway 21 north to K. K to 1st cemetery on right side of the road after Belleview Church.
Celia Ann died on 15 Mar 1875 and was buried beside her infant daughter. I have visited this cemetery and I believe I found the native rock which marks Celia's grave. After Celia died, Julius moved his young family to the household of Zebedee Stephens and stayed there until he remarried Dec of 1875. Vickie continued to live in the household of her grandfather until she was grown and
James Washington and John lived with their father.
  Year 1880.
I do not know why the TWP was first listed as Johnson in 1860, then as Washington TWP in 1870, now listed as Johnson in the 1880 census.

This is the last reference that I have found for Malissa. It is assumed that she died sometime between 1880 & 1883.
  Year 1883.
The funeral sermon for ZW's son-in-law, Isaac W. Pennington, Jr. was preached at the residence of ZW. This funeral service was on the 4th Sunday of July 1883. At that time ZW was still living on Little Black. This funeral was a few months before ZW married Anna French and moved into Doniphan.
