Note: 1850 Callaway County, Kentucky census shows William H. still living in the household of his parents. It has been said that the Hopkins family settled in the Shiloh area of Ripley County, coming here from Kentucky in the early years of the Civil War. William Hopkins brought his first wife and 3 children here possibly to escape serving in the Civil War.
