Notes
a. Note:   These are things that I've been told by several of the living grandchildren and great grandchildren that knew Frank Romanowski. These grandchildren and great grandchildren had to of been born of the earlier children of his to of known him.
The 1900 Census at the Burton Branch of the Main Detroit Library for the Frank
Romanowski family is on Microfilm 1018 real 53.
According to the 1900 Census he was born in 1843 and was married for 8 years to Anna Banach. All of their children were living as of that date. It said that he was born in German Poland. I have found out since that he was born in Russia Poland. A descendant of his stepdaughter Marianna Rachocki-Sobicenski said that he was a Russian Kossic. The same census said that he came here in 1890. Some documents hint that he may of come here in 1886. I don't believe that I find him in any of the area directories before 1890. He could of been in another state. Both Frank's and Anna's parents were said to have been born in Poland. Because of the language barriers of the census takers, some of this information can be wrong.
Frank reported to be a laborer, which can cover many things. He had spent 6 months of the last year not employed. He owned his home with a mortgage document that said he could read and write, but not in English.
A copy of the marriage licence for Frank and his third wife Anna was found at the LDS Library record film # 112589. Here it says that Frank was from Russia Poland and that he had already been married twice. He was 48 when he married Anna and a laborer. His father was Stanislaus and Marianna. Marianna was listed as her maiden name being Romanowski. They probably put Romanowski down because Frank did not know her maiden name. They married November 21, 1892. They got the licence to marry on 11- 10 1892.
Frank was a very large man. It took 8 pallbearers to carry his coffin. He was laid out in the upstairs part of his home at 3525 Ferry, Detroit Mi 48211. He suddenly sat up in his casket while people were viewing him. You had to of been there. (This came from his grandson, John Alert Najduk.)
His grandson Frank Tarnacki says that Frank Romanowski was a maker of beautiful cabinets. He drove a horse and surrey with a beautiful top. He had a daughter Catherina who made moonshine.
Frank Romanowski also was a shrewd businessman. He acquired land, sold it for a profit and bought more land. He is supposed to of owned the land that the Chene-Ferry Market sits on. He owned the land from Ferry north to Palmer, Chene west to the railroad tracks. (Dequinder)
Frank was very much admired by his granddaughter Genovia Sobocinski. Said he fought with the Russian Cossacks. Took a bible from them that he had used in a campaign. He liked to sit in his bed with his bible and read it with his Russian coffee pot next to him. Even though theses kids weren't his blood, they considered him their Grandpa Romanowski. (His third wife's children that he raised)
Other stories that Grandpa Romanowski would drink lard before he went to play poker. He was then able to drink and not feel its effects. He would drink the others under the table.
There is also a myth that he was 99 or 104 when he died. My father said he died in a car accident. I could show him the death record that said he died of Kidney Failure, and dad would still tell the auto accident version of it.
His death record is wrong about his age at death. If you look at the censes and his marriage records, you too will see that. I have him as 91.
