Note: "A Sketch on the Life of George H. Whytsell" by W.L. Adkins was published in "The Braxton Democrat" December 15, 1932 and reprinted in
"The Journal of the Braxton Historical Society" in June 1979. The
article quotes traditional family history, but contains several
errors. The article reads as follows.
"Mr. George H. Whytsell was born 12 May, 1847, in Rockingham County, Virginia. The place of his birth was a one-room log house
located about six miles from Harrisonburg, Virginia, and two miles
from Mt. Crawford, Virginia. His parents were German. His mother was
born in Germany and his father was born in the Valley of Virginia of
German parents, his grandparents having come to this country some
times before the birth of his father."
