Note: Claude Wheeler enlisted in the Army September 17, 1948 in Spokane, Washington. He was living with his parents in Moyie Springs, Idaho at the time. He was in the Infantry, Regulars, 4th Regiment Combat Team---Alaska Company. He was a private first class. His commanding officer was Captain Simmons. He did Basic Training at Fort Lewis, Washington. He then was shipped to Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska where he spent 18 months. He then was shipped to Ladd Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska. After 18 months there he was shipped to Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas and then onto Camp Polk, Louisiana. After he was discharged from the service he spent about 3 years in the Active Reserves and got a honorable discharge. He was living in Spokane, Washington at this time. He met Shirley in Louisiana . He was discharged August 5, 1952. They were married 12 days later in a Methodist Church in the process of being built. Then they moved to Spokane, Washington.
