Note: James was a humbel but honest farmer in the Hazel Green area. He was called by most people who new him "Uncle Will". He was also a Baptist minister. He preached many revivals in and around Hazel Green and was responsible for the baptism of many members of the community. He was a member of Charity Baptist Church. In December 1920 he and 3 other ministers, J.W. Broom, L.M. Honea, and J.T. Wicks organized the Bethlehem Baptist Church and he served as clerk.
