Note: Joseph P. Fairchild - Sixth son of the family of Action H. and Harriet (Day) Fairchild. Born July 1846, Hancock County, Ohio. Joseph came with his parents, to this county, where unassisted, he has made a comfortable living on his own ninety (90) acres, and has added considerable modern improvements. He was married on January 12, 1870 to Mary A. Hawkins, a native of Indiana, and to this union was given four children: Eva, Edwin H., Nelson, and Loren (deceased). Mrs. Mary A. Fairchild died from Consumption on September 16, 1881. Mr. Fairchild was a Republican and one of the staunchest workers of that party. He was well-to-do and an energetic farmer with a promising future for enjoyment and usefulness. The Fairchilds were the first settlers in Demotte, known as Little Village - Billage and Keener, then Demotte. Lived in a log cabin.
