Note: Frankie Edward Cummings was the first Wakeeney City Employee - Water, Plumbing, Streets and Constable. Ed and Myrtle moved to Trego County, Kansas in 1921. Ed told how the original town site was a mile or so father west of where WaKeeney now stands. The town site was moved back to where a depot was built. Ed saw a lot of changes in his lifetime. Ed made deliveries to Collyer & West. One day his vehicle & a Union Pacific train collided on the tracks. Ed was wrapped around a pole. The train crew put him in the caboose & backed all the way to Quinter. There a doctor looked at Ed & said nothing could be done for hime. They notified Ed's family & they showed up & were waiting around for Ed to die. Quite some time had passed, when the doctor announced, I think maybe I'll clean Ed up. He's stubborn enough to pull through. Ed lived and worked with a lot of pain after that. Ed was a good family man and hard worker. Most of the early plumbing in Trego County was done by Ed.
