Note: Buried in Dodson Cemetery, South Dale, Huntington Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Posted by: Joyce Smith Date: April 07, 1998 at 10:59:24 In Reply to: Dodson Ancestors, CN c1855, Luzerne Co. PA., c1890 by Skip Dodson (Osborne C. Dodson , Jr). of 2196 Dodson cemetery was started by my GGGGrandfather (I'll have to check the number of G's...I don't have the book in front of me) Nathan Dodson and his wife Susan. Their toddler daughter Lucy died of some disease that was rampant back then (typhoid fever?). At the time the town cemetery was in a low swampy area and they couldn't bear the thought of their little Lucy being laid to rest in the muck. So they donated a hilltop on their farm to be used as a community cemetery and Lucy Dodson was the first to be buried there. Nathan and Susan also donated a corner of their property to be used as a Methodist chapel. It was n active use until about 1970. The building till stood last time I was there but it was no longer used as a chapel and had reverted to the urrent owner of the farm, Mr. Larue Sutliff. The cemetery is in a lovely spot, well cared for by donations, high on a hill and surrounded by Mr. Sutliff's farmed fields. Many many Dodsons are buried there along with other members of the community. Feel free to email me for directions to the cemetery and also if anyone would be interested in me scanning and posting on my personal Web page the directions to the cemetery, some important documents, Yorkshire Dodson coat f arms, pages from genealogy book, etc.
