a. Note:   Fred was born in Sunderland, Vermont and moved with his family before the age of 10 to Troy, NY and lived in the Troy/Watervliet/Poestenkill area the rest of his life. He was of medium stature with dark hair and light colored eyes.
  Fred must have been very athletic for as a young man was on the champion Troy YMCA gymnastics team. His picture appeared in the Troy newspaper in the Tug of War contest, their team being undefeated. Also played baseball for Troy, NY. He bought his home in Watervliet before 1900 and had a barn built for his horse shortly thereafter. Joined the Masons and went up the ranks to Commander of the Troy Apollos Lodge. He brought his group of Troy Masons to Montreal to meet with the Montreal Masons, of which his brother, Bradford, was the commander. He worked for collar companies, then bought and was President of his own, The Troy Collar Company. Bought a summer home on 53 acres on Powers Rd., Poestenkill, NY in 1924 with a pond, stable, barn and tennis court where his family had numerous parties. Upon retiring, he loved to work in his garden.
