Note: Born in Petersburgh, Rens. Co., NY, he moved to Chiselville, Bennington Co. Vt., then to Troy, N.Y., Lansingburgh, N.Y., then to Ontario, Canada in 1897, taking his youngest son, Bradford Cleaver (called John) with him, possibly remarrying there. He is listed on the 1901 Ontario, Canada census, not yet remarried. Noel was of small statue with dark hair, none on top in later year's pictures, and a dark beard. He was said to have been a very nice man and played the violin quite well. He was a member of the Troy Masons and later the Montreal Masons. He was employed by collar companies in Troy, NY; (Wilbur, Miller & Wilbur and Cluett & Peabody) and also Standard Shirt Co., in Montreal, Canada, where he was manager. His wife, Helen was in a Burlington Hospital for thirty years before her death. Letters also revealed he had loaned his daughter and her husband Fred Phillips, money to buy an inn in West Sand Lake outside Troy, NY. Listed with birth of son Frederick, (Sunderland, VT records) as being born in Petersburgh, NY and occupation as a mechanic in 1869. Listed on back of picture (written by granddaughter, Gladys Powers Hinds, "Grandpa was Mgr Standard Shirt Co., Montreal. While in Troy, NY, with Cluett & Peabody. He got patent for woman's shirtwaist, first one ever". Although this patent has not been found, patents were found for collars by Noel Powers of which we have copies and notes in his own handwriting.
