Note: He was always referred to in records as John Junior and was probably born in Goshen, Mass. arriving in Petersburgh, NY with his father and mother and siblings about 1803. The only evidence of John Jr. being the son of John & Susanna Palmer Powers comes from a letter written by Jessie Van Rensselaer (daughter of Erectus Powers) which was found at the Town Hall of Chestertown, NY, in Jan. 1990. John Jr. has recorded deeds which make one know that he maybe owned/made wagons and did own/run a grist mill in the town of Petersburgh in his lifetime. According to the 1820 census in addition to his immediate family he had 1 male age 16-18, 2 males age 18-26, and 2 females age 16-26 living in his residence, all of which may be his brothers and sisters who chose to live with him and his family after his mother's death in 1813 and his father's remarriage in 1815 and moving to Chestertown, NY. He was 38 years and 3 days when he died, as marked on his gravestone in Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. He died 51 days after buying some land and 19 days after receiving more land which leads one to believe he died of an accident rather than an illness. He died intestate and his wife, Polly, declined being the administer of the estate "owing to my ill state of health" on 14 June 1828. John Jr.'s brother, Elihu P. Powers and his brother-in-law, Noel J. Reynolds took on the job of administering his will.
