a. Note:   he owns a fine home, was born in Luxembourg, December 6, 1840, his parents being farmers. With them he came to America in 1847, the voyage being made on a sailing vessel which took 65 days to cross the ocean. The family settled in Port Washington, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, on a farm, and there the subject of this sketch remained until he came to Wabasha County, with his father, in August 1869, to work in the harvest fields. The father returned Wisconsin, but John remained here, and for several years worked in a furniture factory in Wabasha City. He then rented land in Greenfield Township, and began farming, an occupation he has followed ever since."
  John married Anna Jacobs about 1873. Anna and her parents arrived in the area from Luxembourg about 1868. John and Anna had thirteen children. Most of them remained in the Wabasha area. One of their sons, however, took a homestead in North Dakota in 1907 for a few years, then took a homestead in Alberta, Canada and finally returned to Wabasha in 1916. Several of the children were veterans of WW I.
