Note: had 6 children. The two youngest died as infants. After the death of Susanna, Mathias married Caroline Gantner. They had 6 children. In 1914, on several successive weeks there were large articles in the Port Washington newspaper promoting the up-coming Holstein-Friesan stock show. Math Karrels was awarded a 4th place prize ($3.00) for his one-year-old pure bred bull.
The Port Washington Star, July 18 1914 reported: Death again claimed one of our aged citizens Matt. Karrels, who suffered a paralytic stroke on Tuesday and died on Wednesday. May he rest in peace.
