Note: According to the census of 1900 ((1,241,416): Charles and Sophia Dahl are residing in Jefferson Co, PA in a house that they own with a mortgage on it. Sophia is the mother of 10 children, 9 still living. Charles and his 3 oldest sons have been employed all that year as mine laborers. Every member of the family can read and write except the toddlers The birth dates and marriage date are as noted on the Family Fact Sheet. Note the following discrepancy: They state they immigrated to the US in 1887. The last child born in Sweden is Hilmy in 1885. The next child, Hedwig is said to have been born in PN in 1886 In the 1910 Miracode Index Charles is still in Jefferson Co PA, along with wife Sophia and sons Axel and Reubin In the 1920 census. Charles and Sophia Dahl are living in PIttsburg. The ages and Immigration agree with the 1900 census, But the 21 year old son living with them is named Robert instead of Reuben. Charles is working as a watchman for an Express Co. and Reuben/Robert is working as a machine operator for the steam railroad. Coversation with granddaughter Jue Dahl Kern (1982): Dahl was not the family's original last name. The original last name was something unpronouncably Swedish and the whole family took the shortened name Dahl when they moved here. Jue remembers a visit to the family in PIttsburg as a child. They spoke Swedish among themselves, which annoyed Gust's wife, Luetta no end. Jue remembers one younger brother of Gust named Reuben and a sister also, but does not remember her name.
