a. Note:   Interview with Edwards Phillips granddaughter, Jue Dahl in 1981. Her grandfather was born in the Swansea Valley in Wales, where he was a miner. She didn't know when he came to the US or how he got to MO. But there he married Martha Ann and had 4 surviving children in addition to her mother, Luetta. Their oldest child, Edna died as an infant. In MO he owned a "big" farm and mined there for copper and gold.
  Eventually the family moved to New Mexico where he continued to farm, this time he was growing beans. He died of chilblains in 1916. Jue was present when he died. She remembers him as a very kind and gracious man.

  In the 1880 Census he is in Shawnee, Perry, Ohio, working as a coal miner and single at age 35.
  In the 1900 Census, he is married, living in Salt Spring, Randolph, MO and working as a farmer on a farm he rents.
  In 1910 he is in Silver Creek, Randolph, Mo and still farming
