Note: In the 1900 census, Alonzo Hann is shown in Gardena, CA with wife Mattie V and they have been married 6 years. There is one child in the home, James F, age 2 which is the only child Mattie has had. Alonzo is working as a barber. In the 1910 census AF Hann is living in Los Angeles, Ca. His occupation is Postmaster and living with 13 year old son JF Hann and with a roomer, 20 year old JW Bennett who runs a barber shop. In 1920 Frank Hann the manager of a shoe store and is living in Compton CA, with his wife Louise age 38 who is born is Norway. They have been married 9 years Also in the home if John R Hann, listed as father- in-law, but actually is his father. IN 1930 Alonzo F Hann is living in Exeter, CA and is a farmer. He is living with his wife Anna L. Hann, born in Norway ------------------------------ From a letter to me by my father, John Rush Hann (b. 1917) on 17 March 1983: Alonzo Francis Hann was 15 years older than my father whom he always called kid to my dads disgust. His first wife was Mattie Downs of Hynes (now Paramount, CA). I never heard anything good about her! His second wife was Louise Fosse a native of Norway. They were both very active in Masonic and Odd Fellows Lodges. Louise had no children. Mattie had one, Frankie. I remember him as a black sheep about whom my folks were usually scandalized for some reason. While I remember him (15 years my senior) I do not really know him. The family has not heard of him in years. Uncle Frank apprenticed as a bootmaker but apparently never made it. Uncle Frank was a failure as a cobbler and as a retail shoe merchant. My father had been called back by his father in 1913 to save the shop after his older brother had nearly bankrupted it and then again in 1923 for the same reason. Uncle Frank was marginally successful as a farmer near Exeter until gored by a bull which ended his working days. He served as Postmaster of Compton on the 1920s and of Gardena under T Roosevelt and Taft. He was considered on the best pinochle players in Compton! He died of old age in his 80s.
