Note: The same illness that killed her two sisters Cora and Eva in Nov of 1885, left Grace deaf. When her sister Emma died of polio, Grace married the widower.

From a letter to me by my father, John Rush Hann (b. 1917) on 17 March 1983:
Grace had the �fever� in 1885 and was stone deaf the rest of her life. While that seemed no handicap to her it did make her a difficult person with whom to visit. When Emma lay dying in 1900 she supposedly turned to Grace and said, �Well Grace, now you can have George�. She and George Cowan were married in Long Beach 14 months later. They had three children- all still alive. Lawrence is a Dentist, now retired living in Leisure World. No children. Murry is and has always been everyone�s favorite. One leg about 3� shorter than the other (polio) but he still lettered in football and has led a most active life. He and Lawrence were both active civic leaders in Compton. Murry still lives there although he has sold his Dental Laboratory. He married Charlotte Burger of Lynwood. They have one son Larry, who is an artist with Disney Studios. He lives in Downey. Grace�s youngest is Blanche. I remember her as vivacious and very pretty. Her first husband was Marvin Lauer who was the MD who delivered both you and Kent. He was a thoroughly nice guy and one of the ugliest men I have ever seen. Marv and Blanche have two sons. Jay is an MD I believe, while the younger on is a college professor, (I think). Blanche and her husband , Bud Marshall are retired and live in or near Palm Springs. Marv is dead.
