Note: In 1839 there is a debt settlement filed for Isaac Chandler in Stokes Co. NC. He owes one George Andrews 49 dollars and to pay that debt the following items are to be sold at public auction: � Ten head of hogs, one cow & yearling, one bed and furniture, one chest, one plow, and three hogs & one rocker and cradle.�

In the 1850 census Isaac is listed as a farmer and 35 years of age living in Snow Creek District of Stokes Co. He is illiterate. Next door are Isham Slate and his wife Mary, who I believe is Isaac's oldest sister. She was married to Ishom Slate in 1822.

In 1860 Isaac is a "tennant" in Rockford Surry Co. NC and his personal property is worth 25 dollars. He has John Key and his wife (Isaac's daughter Emily) and child living with Isaac's family. He gives his age as 49. He is living in a tight cluster of relatives that includes William Chandler (age 66) and family, Pleasant Chandler (age 46) and family, and a Pilson household that includes Judah Chandler (age 80).

In 1870 he is living in nearby Marsh township, Surry Co NC indexed as Isaac Charles, age 58. He is living with his wife Francis, 55 and no children. They are next door to John and Emily Key, his daughter and son in law and their children.

Isaac age 64 and Francis age 63 are still alive for the 1880 census. They are living in Eldora, Surry Co, NC. In their home is daughter Mary, unmarried, and her two sons, John and Richard. Also in the home are son Joseph and his wife Mary.

"Isaac Chandler was born in 1811 in Stokes County. He was a farmer. He married Frances Stewart about 1833. To this union were born ten children. Delia born in 1835, she married Thomas Tilley July 4 1854. She died Feb 9, 1917. Emily born in 1837, she married John A Key July 1 1858. Adelade born in 1839 Malissa born Oct 12, 1841, she died Jan 1923. She Married Maner Longbottom Aug 22, 1860. Susan born 1843, she married William Venable. William Henderson born December 29, 1845. He died April 21, 1921. He married Susan Critchfield Aug 2, 1858 and he married Jane Montgomery Oct 5, 1865. Richard born in 1847. Mary born in 1850. Joseph born in 1854, he married May Frances Flippon Nov 20, 1897. Thomas Benjamin born Feb 29, 1865, he died Feb 18, 1931. He married Ellen Flippen Jan 11, 1878." Contributor was Joseph T. Stewart

Personal communication with Walter Thomas Chandler, a grandon of Isaac's daughter Mary, 3/08: Isaac was buried on what was the Childress farm near Ararat NC. A tombstone was erected there for him and Fannie although she had been buried somewhere else. He plans to go there this summer and will send pictures.
