Note: The 1860 and 1870 censuses show Joseph living with his parents Reuben and Sarah Lord in Lyme, New London Co. CT. His occupation both times is sailor. In 1860 his father is 47 and his mother is 45 and both were born in CT. His father is a farmer. His 3 younger brothers, Henry, Reuben, and Walter also living in the home in both censuses. In 1860 there is also a sister Elizabeth working as a teacher. In the 1880 census he is living in Lyme CT with his wife Nettie and no children. He is a fisherman. Next door is 67 year old Reuben Lord who is a dealer in fish. With Reuben is his wife Matilda and a son Walter age 27. The 1900 Census shows Joseph, wife Nettie and daugher Edith living in HIllsborough Co. FL. The birth dates given here are from that census. HIs occupation is given as "sailor" and he was unemployed only 1 mo out of the last year. He owns his own home. His parents were both born in Conneticut and he can read and write. I was unable to find him or his wife on the 1910 census, although I did find their daughter living still in Hillsborough, but with an aunt.
